FIFA World Cup 2018, 2022 hosts

FIFA World Cup 2018, and 2022 hosts have been selected. Russia and Qatar to host 2018 and 22 edition respectively.

I guess correctly to be selected as 2018 host but England to lost at Round 1 with only 2 votes is really unexpected. I would expect England to lose at round 2 onward. It was really surprised, no wonder there are plenty of news published at UK newspapers, and all are not so favor to FIFA selection committees.

There criticised the selection methods and also the committees, who they claimed those "agreed" to vote England has jump ship at last minute.

I think England should blame themself for the failure. First, the scandal on several committees who would sell their vote to whoever wants it. Second, the media which is at last minute still published the scandal. And finally, a FA cup tie was ended with field invasion closer to bidding process.

On the Qatar being selected, it was really a surprised. I choose Aussie to be the front runner, and again there lost out at the first round. Surprise !!!

At the final round between Qatar and USA, it was won by Qatar. Qatar selection was really surprised to many, as the country was so small, even their population is less  than 2 millions.

If the 2022 edition to be play at June, it will be very very hot !!! It reported the temperature could reach 50 celsius. Hard to imagine, the suffering of those players.

Either the date change to Jan from normal June or play at the fully air conditional stadium (who knows, they may be able to do it).

Congratulations to Russia and Qatar. For England and USA, don't blame others when lost the bid, try again next time.

F1, 2010 - Drivers and Teams results.

Sebastian Vettel ended the season as new F1 Champion. He also beat Hamilton as the youngest F1 Champion. He won it at the age of 23 years and 106 days, by renewing Hamilton's 2008 record of 23 and 307 days.

Well done, Vettel. He deserved it, in fact he should have won it much earlier if not for his misfortune in several races where he leads or in good position before retiring with mechanical failure or crashed.

As expected, 3 rookies team finished the season at bottom of the table, and without a single point.

Lotus is the best rookie team among 3 of them.

Hopefully, teams are allowed to refill for next season onward. Otherwise it will be another boring season and F1 is going to lose steam in long run.

With refilling oil allow, tactics are crucial.

F1 2010, a boring season !

World Cup 2010: 2 Asian teams in last 16?

Asian Football Confederation president Mohamed Bin Hammam is tipping at least two teams from the region to make the World Cup round of 16

The Qatari did not say which teams he favoured, but was upbeat about their chances.

“Our best wishes for a successful competition go to Asia’s four representatives. Our hearts will follow their performances as they fly the Asian flag in this World Cup,” he said.

“I expect at least two Asian teams to reach the round of 16.”

FIFA and AFC Executive Committee member Junji Ogura expressed similar hopes.

“At least two should reach the second round,” said the Japanese power-broker.

“This is our dream and we hope they will do well. I expect all the teams to do well and show Asian football to the rest of the world.”

Australia, Japan, South Korea and North Korea are the Asian Football Confederation teams that qualified, but none was handed an easy draw and they have their work cut out.

The Socceroos, who made the last 16 at Germany 2006, are seen as Asia’s best hope here, but go into the tournament on a defeat, having lost 3-1 to the United States on Saturday.

They are pitted with Ghana and Serbia, with their opening Group D game against three-time champions Germany in Durban on June 13.

South Korea, in their eighth World Cup finals, made it to the semi-finals in 2002 on home turf but struggled in Germany four years ago where they failed to get beyond the group stages.

They face Argentina, Greece and Nigeria in Group B, while Japan, who have lost their last four internationals, play Cameroon, the Netherlands and Denmark in Group E.

North Korea, 2,000-1 rank outsiders, are Asia’s wild card. They are drawn in the same group as Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal. - AFP
