Reds plan shock swoop for City ace
Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The England international is thought to be surplus to requirements at Eastlands, and Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is ready to bring the 28-year-old to Anfield.Wright-Phillips is currently fighting for a place in England's World Cup 23, but is widely expected to miss the cut after falling down the pecking order for both club and country.
Reds midfielder Yossi Benayoun has recently spoken out over a potential move to Chelsea, and his potential departure leaves Benitez with limited wide options in midfield. It is even speculated that the Israeli could be offered in a part-exchange deal should Roberto Mancini be interested.
Former Chelsea Wright-Phillips flourished in Manchester under Mark Hughes, but the arrival of Italian Mancini saw his opportunities become limited.
The Merseyside club would have to pay around £8 million for Wright-Phillips, which is similar to the fee the Citizens paid to take their man back to the club for a second time back in 2008.
With 30 international caps to his name, Wright-Phillips has good pedigree and bags of Premier League experience. The signing would represent a fairly minimal risk for Benitez, whilst giving Ian Wright's son the opportunity to get his club career back on track.
